“The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start.”

– John Bingham

Monday August 11 is the day–first day of MVXC19!  Here are some bullet points for the week that may answer questions you have…

  • Practice will start at 7am from Monday through Saturday until school starts on August 19; then practice will start exactly 20 minutes after the last bell each day (that is, we will start practice at 3:45pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and at 3:40pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting August 19 and continuing all season long).  We want you in the stands ready to go at the start of practice, please.
    • Why are we running at 7am this week?  It’s cooler!  For the week before school starts, let’s use our schedule flexibility to beat the heat, that’s truly elite.
  • Yes, we know that some of you will have conflicts with ROTB…we will work around that.  Freshmen have ROTB on Tuesday, and Coach Johnson is planning on meeting you at 2pm on Tuesday for your workout (maybe some upperclassmen will come to provide some leadership!).  We will work out details for you at practice on Monday.
    • Seniors, would be great if you showed up for the start of practice on Monday then walk over to ROTB.  It would be great for the younger teammates to see all of you.
  • Yes, you have to be athletically cleared in order to run with the team!   You need to go see Javier in the trainers’ room at 4pm; if you have all your paperwork you will be cleared to practice with the team the following day.
    • If you are not cleared, you can still come Monday morning to the the day one information (attached to this post are links to download .pdf files of tomorrow’s handouts).
  • In addition to coming back here to mvrunning.com, you can keep up to date with athlete-managed social media by joining and following:
    • Monta Vista XC Group on Facebook, and
    • @montavistaxc on Instagram.

We are about to be off and, quite literally, running!  See you all tomorrow–we can’t wait to get this started!

Coach

“If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.”
