The next time you run to the top of Hunters’ Point, take a short break at the top.  Sit down on the bench, take a look at the Bay, and catch your breath.  And say ‘thanks’ to the twelve Monta Vista cross-country runners who built the bench you are sitting on!

For the second year in a row, a dozen Monta Vista distance athletes volunteered for a day at Fremont Older park.  Guided by Michael and Frank, two open space technicians from the open space district, we learned how to dig post holes in rock-like soil, assemble a bench, and mix and pour concrete.  Perversely, we used none of the knowledge we have gained in APUSH or honors physics, and our highly trained aerobic-base was not taxed at all!  However, the trails that we run on every week of the year are a little better off because of our efforts!

Check out the Cupertino Courier on Friday June 22; they thought that our volunteering was a pretty nice thing to do, too.
