I was working on a bib for the Watermelon Run and thought I’d give you all an update and some reminders…
Practice Schedule: Before The First Day Of School
Our first official practice will be Monday, August 8. From August 8 through August 20, practice will start at 7am every day for two hours. We want to get up early and beat the heat for as long as we can!
Practice is required for these two weeks, even though school has not begun yet. You will be excused if there is a conflict with a school activity such as Running of the Bulls. We need to start practicing at the beginning of August if we are going to be ready to race in September!
Practice Schedule: Once School Starts
Monta Vista has a new bell schedule for 2022. With that new schedule, here is our planned practice schedule for the season starting the first day of school on August 22:
- Monday: 4:10pm to 6:10pm
- Tuesday: 4:10pm to 6:10pm
- Wednesday: 3:25pm to 5:25pm
- Thursday: 4:10pm to 6:10pm
- Friday: 3:25pm to 5:25pm
- Saturday: 7:00am to 9:30am
There will be races on four Tuesdays–September 20 (Baylands), October 4 (Crystal), October 18 (Baylands) and November 1 (Crystal), as well as Thursday, October 27 at Lynbrook–on those days, you will be back home later than usual. There will also be four or five Saturday invitational races.
Other Reminders
- The Watermelon Run is planned for Wednesday, August 24th…that is seven weeks away if you are reading this as I post this blog! That time will go by fast. That is the first week of school–three days after your first day of school, yikes! That is one reason you want to get your running in…if you show up for your first day of practice on the 22nd, Watermelon is going to be uncomfortable!
- But, but, but…you have your team to help you prepare! Have you been joining summer running? If you have not joined summer running yet, today is the day! Well, probably tomorrow. In any case, let’s get out together and run…your comrades will help you get started with your training no matter what your current level! If you are new to MVXC, this is a way to get to know your future teammates. You can do this…and who knows how far you can go…let your teammates help you get on down the road!
- Our first race will be September 3 at Lagoon Valley…that is only the second week of school! We really enjoyed this race last year. Keep running consistently in July and August and we will see lots of PRs at Lagoon Valley!
- You can only join practice after you have completed your athletic clearance. If you have not scheduled your annual physical, tell your parents to get an appointment with your doctor NOW to complete your physical form! You may only practice with the team if you have been cleared (if you are not cleared you start accumulating absences). So please, please…get your physical done and start the clearance process!
- Shoes, shoes, shoes…I cannot emphasize enough how important new shoes can be! New running shoes that are fitted for your feet will help you avoid injuries as you train (and just make you feel good!).
