The Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) championship meet is always an exciting affair–every race is high quality, and tension and motivation is very high, while we are all at the peak of our training levels. The quality of the SCVAL meet is similar to many state meets!
Monta Vista saw several PRs recorded. Our varsity boy’s 4×400 team, with the addition of freshman Mike Sakellar, recorded their fastest time of the year with a 3:34.05. Giselle Kaneda, competing in three events–the most of any MV athlete–had a season best in the 100m hurdles, and Paru Meyyappan broke 12 minutes in the 3200m race for the first time–and broke that barrier with lots to spare with a 11:47.40. Julia Chang completed her stellar Monta Vista athletic career in style, with a personal best in the 3200m, recording a 11:34.83. The Johns Hopkins University cross country team is going to love having her join them next Fall!
Four Monta Vista athletes move on to the CCS semi-finals next Saturday: Two runners, two jumpers; two boys, two girls. Rohan Choudhury (3200m) and Kelly Bishop (800m, 1600m) and high jumpers James Migdal and Sanjna Bharadwaj all will move on to represent us. Come cheer them on–the meet is at San Jose City College, right down the road!
Congratulations, again, to everyone!
