Monta Vista Cross Country traveled out to Baylands Regional Park on October 22 for our last regular league meet of the season, and the team showed off what a season of good training and hard work can do!

With 41 athletes running, an incredible 32 runners–that’s 78%!–had course personal records!  Twenty-one of these athletes had distance PRs–their fastest 5km runs on any course.  That is an incredible result.   To give some perspective, last year we had 55 starters and 18 PRs.  Having this many MVXC athletes set personal records is a testament to the dedicated work ethic shown by this team–this group has really put in the miles and worked hard all season long.

While there are many athletes deserving of a round of applause, let’s point out a couple of exceptional results.  Rohun Agrawal, running the Baylands course for the fourth time, recorded a 50 second PR on the way to a second place finish in the varsity boys’ race; Rohun now has the fastest time ever run by an MVXC boy at Baylands.  Sylvana Northrop, also running Baylands for her fourth race, had a 30 second PR and a fourth place varsity finish while recording the fastest time ever for an MVXC girl at Baylands.  Nitin Subramanian and Vivian Lau had 1:12 and 1:13 PRs, respectively, while moving into 5th and 6th place all time for Monta Vista at Baylands.   Freshmen had outstanding days too; for the girls, Sydney Stevens, Nerea Northrop and Vidya Bharadwaj improved more than a minute and a half from the first time they ran this course only four weeks earlier (!!!), while Max Ready and Sean Basu both dropped more than two minutes from their first attempt at Baylands last month (in addition to Insiah Kizilbash’s off-the-charts 9 minute PR!).

Exceptional!

Even slightly shorthanded, these fine efforts and others powered the boys to a fourth place varsity finish and the girls came home in sixth place.  Monta Vista is well positioned for league finals in two weeks at Crystal Springs–November 5, 2019.

The last set of CCS rankings came out after Tuesday’s race; based upon voting of coaches around the section, the MVXC girls held their sixth place ranking in the 127 school section, while the boys moved up to 11th.  Nice job–now we need to make that stand up for real in the post-season, and maybe move up a bit…

Complete results for the Baylands meet have been posted.
