Start of Matador Ks
Monta Vista Cross Country has the first week of practice in the books, and athletes are beginning to get runs and workouts in their logs and are depositing mileage in the bank! Here are some of what the team did the week of August 8…
- We ran the first set of hill repeats as a team at Linda Vista Park.
- We jogged the Palm Avenue three mile tempo route…a route we will be very familiar with over the course of our MVXC careers.
- We ran our first threshold workout–repeat Matador K’s in Stevens Canyon Park (Manasi and Anika had the biggest average pace improvements from 2021, Ruhaan had the most consistent set of anyone who ran five or more reps, and Nikhita demonstrated her senior skills with her solid start followed by big negative splits in the last two reps).
- We ran Up and Over for the first time in MVXC22–with motivated athletes opting to run Up and Over + Seven Springs.

Each day, we are stacking another workout on top of the workout before, like putting another brick on a wall or making another deposit in the bank. Just keep stacking workouts, whatever workout our ability allow us, putting in our best effort day after day. We all progress at our own level. We all have the ability to give our best each day. Over time, we have a big impressive wall, or a giant bank account that we can draw upon when race day comes! Keep showing up day after day and putting in the effort with your friends and who knows how far you will go!
If you have not been cleared yet, you still may join the team! You may still join MVXC as long as you are athletically cleared before our time trial on August 25 and you run in the Watermelon Time Trial. The later you get there may be issues with PE credit particularly for juniors and seniors (we have some more flexibility with freshman and with transfer students), however even if you don’t earn PE credit, it is possible to be on the team if you join before August 25. Be part of the best team around!
