Wednesday March 30 saw Monta Vista host Mountain View for the first time on our new track…and it was a successful day for our home team!
While our varsity team once again struggled, the Monta Vista frosh-soph boys and junior varsity girls kept there perfect league records alive with victories! An important thing to remember…we are making a conscious decision to keep our freshman running as freshman in almost every case. The senior and junior athletes are playing a HUGE role in bringing along our FSB and JVG teams and we are all participating in their success, and all 100 members of our team should be proud of the kids’ 4-0 records!
Some of the individual highlights from Wednesday include:
–After a visit earlier in the week from Olympic triple jumper Erica McLain, Cynthia Gong unleashed a monster 32’1″ triple jump! This was more than a foot further than her previous season best and is the fourth longest jump in the El Camino League so far this year!
–Aarohi Palkar threw the shot more than 27′ for the first time, recording a 27’4″ PR!
–James Midgal cleared 6’2″ in the high jump for the first time ever, as well as winning the long jump with a 18’8″ jump!
–Sarah Feng thrilled the crowd with her 1600m finish; Sarah and Gabrielle Joffe of Mountain View had identical 5:14.07 marks with Gabrielle winning by a hair! The crowd was going crazy.
–Brent Mogensen completed the less common long jump, 300m Hurdle and 3200m run triple…why didn’t he throw the discus?
There were lots of other highlights…check out the results at Lynbrook Track.
A special shout-out to all parents and teachers who volunteered at our track meet…from starting gun to last relay finish, we completed the meet in two hours and twenty-six minutes! That was good work, everyone!
There are photos from Mr. Ma and from Jessica Ji on-line, too!
