MVXC had a fifth straight successful trip to the Mt SAC Invitational, the biggest XC race in the world. Over two days, 15,877 high school runners competed, and 41 of those athletes represented Monta Vista!
Monta Vista fielded six complete teams, and those teams recorded a runner up, a third place, and three fourth-place finishes! That is an incredible day for our teams, maybe the best top-to-bottom day we have ever had. Individually, we had 14 runners PR out of 17 opportunities, more than 80%! Highlights included the freshman girls team second place finish and the sophomore boys taking third. Individually, Brent ran the second fastest time at Mt. SAC ever by a Monta Vista boy (breaking 16 minutes on the hilly three mile course), and Claire took home a cowbell for finishing first in her freshman race with a sparkling 20:01 time. Aidan, Andy Ma, Scott, and Sabrina all had PRs of over one minute! Every boys’ team, as well as the girls’ freshman team, recorded team PRs also.
In addition, we had visits from two MVXC alumni! Pearl Law (MVXC12), who is now a senior at UC Irvine and is competing for the UCI Anteaters varsity team, and Rohan Choudhury (MVXC15), now running for the CalTech cross country team, both dropped by to say hello. It was great to see them both–happy, healthy and successful!

Our teams look ready for the FUSHD championships this week, and SCVALs the following week!

A huge shout out and thank you to the parents who came along and made this trip possible–Mr. Ma, Mr. Subramanian, Ms. McDonough (Gottlieb) and especially Ms. Loke! And of course…thank you to all the parents who have supported our kids all year, and on this trip, too!
