As most of you know, your coach still trains and competes in road races, including marathons. I’ve told you about my running group that meets at 5:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as Saturdays (I am usually with MVXC or MVTF on Saturday mornings the last few years, but some of my friends and I still run on Sunday mornings now and then). I’ve told many of you how much I enjoy and value my running partners, and I encourage you to think about running after you graduate from high school.
Here is an article in the LA Times that captures what another older runner thinks about his running partners, long after high school. I think he does a great job of telling the story of his running community. You can keep running your entire life. A running community like this is an important part of my life, and I think that you can also have a group like this as you grow up. I hope that you continue to run and that your running partners are your friends, too! I believe that having active friends that share a healthy and challenging interest like this can make our lives richer.
Running is not just about being more healthy. You get persistence and a sense of accomplishment. Running gives you another reason to hang out with other healthy, goal oriented, interesting people. Running is simply FUN!
I hope to see you on the road for years!
