MVXC have all of July to run wild, so let’s make the most of this last month before school starts and formal practice begins!

As a teenager, we don’t have control over everything in our lives.  It’s pretty hard to imagine going to our parents and saying “you know, I was thinking, I want to take the next year off from school and volunteer for Save the Children in Peru” (you can save that announcement for your senior year in college!).  You probably can’t say “math is not for me, I’m done” and if your parents have chosen where you are going for a holiday in two weeks, you probably can’t say “nope, I’m going to meditate on a beach in the Yucatan”.  Yes, teenagers have some constraints on possible choices.

But once choice cross country runners do have…is to decide how much you want to work to get the most out of your running talent.

You do get to choose if you are going to run every day in July, or not.  You can choose to get in touch with your friends and arrange running outings with others!  You can choose to get plenty of sleep and food and fuel and hydration in order to get the most out of your runs.  You can choose to smile and play and put joy in your runs, to run with a song in your heart, to push yourself a little bit faster at the end of some runs and laugh at your partners and you fly to the finish!

Being committed to your running this month, and getting ready for the coming XC season, is a choice you do get to make.

You can carpe diem.  Seize the day!

Let’s all carpe the heck out of every diem we have in July!
