Hello, everyone!

I hope that you all are having a nice break!  This time of year is usually some enjoyable running for me, and I hope for you too.  I’m just off of a successful marathon just starting to gear up for another training cycle, and you are all are coming off successful finals 🙂 and getting ready to start thinking about the coming track season.  This time of year, even if I’m pushing myself a bit, the workout seems to have a different vibe; it seems like my friends and I will chat a little more and maybe go a little further during our warm ups and warm downs, and afterwards we sit together and talk and laugh a bit more while we have coffee and a snack after our run.

I think that’s why I enjoyed my run last Saturday with a group of MV distance runners…we got together and ran on the trails in Quicksilver Park, and afterwards we all went to a local coffee shop and ordered a bunch of crepes (savory and sweet) and pastries and sat and talked for quite a while.  Watching this group, it’s easy to see these Monta Vista student-athletes having runs like this for the next forty years–that might seem like forever, however I am still going for trail runs with my friends and having coffee and crepes afterwards more than 40 years after I graduated from high school!  There are not many things that we can do for so long, that are fun and build community and help us stay healthy and active.  Running is one of those things!  It’s fun to watch you all build up your own running traditions and active holiday rituals and heritage.

So…maybe this week, as New Years Eve and Day approaches, you want to think about some special run or memorable workout or particular activity that you and some friends and teammates might want to do together?  Combine your activity and community and friendship together this holiday season!

Have a great New Years…and see you all soon!
