Senior Kevin Bishop and Freshman Jenny Xu both posted record-breaking performances to end Monta Vista’s 2011 XC season on high notes.

Under perfect running conditions at Fresno’s Woodward Park, Kevin Bishop ran the 5km championship course in 15:37, good enough for 18th place in the State for Division 1.  Kevin’s time was the fastest time ever recorded by a Monta Vista runner, and was the 3rd best time of any Central Coast Section runner for the day.  What a great finish to a great Monta Vista XC career!  During his time at Monta Vista, Kevin claimed all-time MV course records at:  Toro Park, Lynbrook, Central Park, Crystal Springs, Stanford and Woodward Park.

Jenny Xu is just beginning her MV XC career and she finished her first season with a flourish.  Jenny’s 19:00 time at State placed her 42nd in California Division 1, and she was the 6th fastest D1 freshman in the race–and the fastest from CCS.  Jenny’s time also was the fastest ever recorded by an MV girl at Woodward Park!

Two Monta Vista records in the same day = a good day of racing!

While competing as individuals, both Kevin and Jenny demonstrated fabulous team spirit.  On Friday, Kevin ran the Woodward Park course with Jenny, showing her the features of the course and giving her racing tips.  On Saturday, Jenny stayed long after her race was over to be on the course at the finish cheering Kevin on.  Right to the end, MV acted like a team!  Also, all the runners who worked with Jenny over the last two weeks deserve a shout-out; Julia, Chloe, Sanjna, Nikhil, David, Vikrant, Ajay, Glenn,  (I’m sure I missed a couple, sorry!)–Jenny appreciated you being out there day after day for her, thank you so much, from Jenny and all your coaches!

The State meet was a lot of fun…and with hard work, team spirit and good fortune, MV will be back as a team–sooner than some may think!

Congratulations, once again, to the Monta Vista XC family on a fabulous season!
