Athletes (and Parents)…
If you would like to watch the SCVAL meet (at Los Gatos, this Saturday May 6) for free (FREE!), we need your name by Thursday so we can put you on the free entry list. All you need to do is help move hurdles–and if we have plenty of people, moving hurdles is easy! Please email your name (and of friends who you are bringing) to coachflatow@gmail.com and say ‘I will help with hurdles at SCVAL’. Then be at Los Gatos by 11am, find Coach Flatow and Coach Smith, and be ready to cheer for your teammates! We need your help!
SCVAL Schedule
The SCVAL schedule is posted. Field events check in is at 8:30am and start at 9am, so get to bed and get up early! Track events kick off at 11am with the varsity girls’ 4x100m relay and proceed in the usual order. The meet should be over by 3pm. The SCVAL championships are always a great event!
Alumni Update
Coach Flatow was in the Midwest during break week to visit Ananya Rajagopal (MV2020) (currently a junior at the University of Illinois) and Sammi Dunn (MV2021), who is a sophomore at the University of the Chicago and a member of their track team. Not an alumni, but alumni adjacent;Coach Flatow caught up with the head coach of the Carnegie-Mellon University track team, Gary Aldrich, at the University Athletic Association conference championships hosted by UChicago. Two MVXC alumni, Kiersten Chuc and Parvathi Meyyappan, competed for the Carnegie-Mellon track and field team.
Triya Roy (MV2020) is now running for Johns Hopkins University, and competed in the 10km at Penn Relays–and Bridget Gottlieb, who is also a graduate of Johns Hopkins and is now living in Philadelphia and working for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, was on the infield as a coach for the Philadelphia Track Club and was there to cheer!
Sotirios Kougiouris (MV 2022) is hurdling, sprinting and running relays in his first season on the UC Santa Cruz track team.
Vivian Lau (MV 2022) completed her first year on the Tufts University track team with a 42:14 time in the 10km at the Sunshine Classic.
Rohan Agrawal (MV2021), a sophomore on the CalTech track team, set a personal best of 14:52 in the 5km at the SCIAC championships.
Several current MV track and field seniors gathered before practice on May 2 to proudly show their college commitments for the Fall of 2023: Lourdes Diaz (Cornell), Avani Kalari (University of Illinois), Karena Lai (UC Santa Barbara), Coach Flatow (UPenn)(!!!wait, what?!?), Sydney Stevens (Colorado), Nerea Northrop (Oregon State), and Nikhita Saldi (Texas).
