Yes, athletes, the first XC practice is almost upon us…on Monday, August 9, at 7am on the MV track, we will lace up our shoes and get on the trails for the first official practice for MVXC 2021!
Job One for athletes who plan to be ready is to keep running–or get running! The future can be an abstraction while the distractions of the present–Intragram, video games, a nap?–can be enticing. So let’s conquer the distractions and prepare for a great season by getting in some miles!
A necessary detail is to get your athletic clearance. The Matador Athletics site has all the information you need (including the links to Physical Form 1 and Form 2 which I know people were struggling to find). If you don’t have your physical scheduled, get that done right away–from August 9 forward you may only practice with the team if you have been cleared. If your doctor does not have an appointment available between now and August 6, you can go to an urgent care center and have your physical done, and CVS pharmacy will do this as a walk in also (“I could not get an appointment” is not good enough I’m afraid…there is no flexibility on this rule, you may not join the team until you have been cleared!). Consider asking for a blood test, also…this is important for young endurance athletes.
Athletes who have started the clearance process as of July 24 are: Sean, Harish, Andrew G, Darren, Ethan, Alex, Jayden, Max, Saran, Naoka, Kimaya, Anika, Vera, Sophia, Shirin, Meena, Abigail, and Joey.
As soon as you have completed all the steps that the school asks for, send an email to Javier (javier_margarito@fuhsd.org) and Mr Bonacorsi (nick_bonacorsi@fuhsd.org) and tell them ‘I think I’m all cleared’ so that you are ready to go!
And it’s time for some new shoes, too!
See you all soon!
