Risako Tanida and Nandini Chitale brought home hardware from the 5000M

We are still waiting for perfect track weather!  While we are waiting, MV athletes are showing that they are ready to start throwing down some remarkable times.  Fitness was shining through the rainclouds at Fremont High School as despite the rain, MV athletes were winning medals and throwing down PRs all over the track.

Usually sprinters and hurdlers suffer the most in wet and cold weather, but not on Saturday.  Rochish Ambati had a PR in the frosh-soph boys’ 100M with a 12.88, good for a third place medal, and Nima Kiyarash also took a 3rd in the 400M with a 57.27.  After the race he was moaning that he was wishing he had joined the track team when he was a freshman; what Nima REALLY should have been worried about was the fact his coaches are thinking he is so good at the 400M, maybe he is really a 400-800M guy!  Ouch, that is a lot of work in his future!  Meanwhile, Donald Swen scored a rare hat trick with a 1st place medal, a 2nd and a 3rd all in the same meet (65m hurdles, long jump, and 300M hurdles)–including PRs in both hurdle races.  Wow, what a day!

Distance runners represented themselves well too.  Rohan Choudhury ran a super-smart race in the wind and rain to win the FSB 1600M, and brought home another first place medal after anchoring the 4×800 team with Shanmukh Challa, Anand Rao and Steven Lim.  Jenny Xu took a second in the varsity girls’ 1600, fighting one of the top distance runners in the league.  We will be ready for that senior when leagues come around.  Pearl Law ran a truly remarkable 3200M race; Pearl’s 12:07.05 was not only a huge PR, run virtually alone, but keep in mind that last year she never even broke 6 minutes for the 1600.  She almost ran last season’s 1600 PR twice in the same race!

The turnout at the meet was a little thin…so the results of a hard-core bunch of MV athletes are even more impressive.  You are one tough bunch!

A two-win day is always special!
