Many Monta Vista athletes went to sleep on Friday night feeling pretty satisfied with their races at Top 8!

This year’s CCS Top 8 meet was held at San Jose City College while the stands at Los Gatos are being rebuilt.  SJCC is a fast track and we took advantage of good, hot track weather to record some hot times.

Sophomore Anand Rao and freshman Rohan Choudhury both competed in their first Top 8 meet and scored huge PRs in the 800M.  I’m pretty sure that Anand’s 2:07.31 and Rohan’s 2:08.12 were the first time that either of them went under 2:10, and more than that, I think these were 5-6 second PRs for both runners.  Rohan, by the way, had a race plan to get to 2:08…I think that worked out pretty well!  Sophomore Zach Patti also competed in his first Top 8 and recorded a 4:55 in the 1600M, and Albert Han represented our hurdlers well with a 46.24 for a PR in the 300H.

Two Monta Vista girls had highlight days.  Jenny Xu had a big PR in the 3200M with a 11:25.91; this time is below the CCS Championship at-large standard!  And Angella Qian demonstrated that she is the queen of the 2 second PR with a 2:23.64 in the varsity girls’ 800M race.  Angella now has the second fastest 800M time of any freshman in the Central Coast Section–out of 130+ schools, there is only one girl with a faster time that that is by less than a second!  Watch Angella in the last 100M of any race; Angella’s assassin instinct is easy to see, and she has a target on the back of any girl within striking distance.  It’s a joy to watch!

The varsity boy’s 4×400 team of Surafael Yared, Bumpei Maeda, Michael Lu and Arvind Rao sent notice that they intend to return to the CCS championships with their 3:34 clocking.

The team is looking ready for the league meet coming up April 30/May 2!  See you all there!

(Thank you to Mr. Choudhury and Takuto Doshiro for use of their photographs…not that I actually asked for permission to use them, but thank you anyway! 🙂 )
