Here is a quick note to recap the Double-Dual meet vs. Fremont and Homestead.

For readers not familiar with a double-dual, this is a pretty fun structure for a meet.  Three teams run together, but the teams are scored in pairs–so we get 3 meets in one (MV vs. F, MV vs. H, and H vs. F).  It’s kind of a mini-invite and and can be very exciting!

Monta Vista teams had a challenging day against Homestead:

Varsity Girls:  Homestead 75, Monta Vista 47

Varsity Boys:  Homestead 84. Monta Vista 39

JV Girls:  Homestead 98, Monta Vista 21

Frosh-Soph Boys:  Homestead 84, Monta Vista 41

The team scores for the Fremont meet turned out to be very exciting:

Varsity Girls:  Fremont 65, Monta Vista 59 (so close!  if we had one just one of the relays, or taken one more first place, that would have pushed us over the top!  Great going, girls!)

Varsity Boys:  Monta Vista 63, Fremont 62 (wow!  That just shows that EVERY POINT COUNTS!  Every person who scored a point for the team had a crucial point for the team win!)

JV Girls:  Monta Vista 70, Fremont 20

Frosh-Soph Boys:  Monta Vista 72, Fremont 40

That concludes the Monta Vista dual meet schedules, with both varsity teams finishing 1-5, and the JVG and FS Boys finishing 3-3–with lots of promise for the future.  The El Camino League meet is in two weeks (April 30 and May 2) and each team can enter three athletes in each event for every division.   Based on some of the strong individual performances that we have seen, Monta Vista athletes should make a big impact in the League Meet.

The Monta Vista individuals who recorded the best marks of all three schools at Thursday’s meet were:  Kevin Bishop, 4:33.59 in the 1600; Michael Lu with a 55.45 in the 400 (Michael, were you really a sprinter all this time?); Arvind Rao with a 2:02.33 for a never-in-doubt win in the 800M; Surafael Yared completing an MV sweep of every boys’ race over 200M with his 10:59 in the 3200; Gokul Parakulum with a 5’2″ leap in the HJ; and our 4×400 relay win.  For the girls, Jenny Xu’s 5:23.26 lead all girls in the 1600, Allison Win prepped for leagues with a 19.19 win in the 100M hurdles, Bridget Gottlieb’s 12:39 was the fastest girls 3200M of the day, and Hannah Ho completed a Monta Vista sweep of the high jump with her 4’10” mark.

This was the last dual meet for our Monta Vista seniors, and sadly this group never had a chance to compete on their own, home track.  As the construction of our new athletic fields continues to blast along, the happy side is that this should be the last group of seniors who will miss the chance to compete on our home track.  Several of the freshman talked to me about how it would have been nice to been able to do something more for our great group of seniors.  Your coaches love that team spirit and we look forward to developing new track & field traditions next year…including a senior day at our last home meet of the season.  That’s a great idea, freshmen!

We hope you are working out this week and getting ready for leagues!  Let’s finish this year strong!
