The Dawn Patrol reported to duty at 6:30 am on Saturday on the Monta Vista track!
Starting in the dark, 14 of us headed to the top of Fire Trail and saw the sunrise over the valley. After that warm-up, in the red of the morning, we banged out mile repeats on Candy Crush–one of the toughest workouts in our tool kit. Each mile repeat has 365 feet of climbing. That is not easy. It’s epic. Epic!
Coach, these repeats are fun!
We watched the sunrise while most of the world was still in bed, dreaming that they had the passion of these 13 intrepid runners.Being up for a lovely sunrise is nice for a few reasons. There is a sense of calm that comes with the early morning stillness. It’s a peaceful time to collect your thoughts or simply enjoy a quiet moment before the day begins. The natural beauty of a sunrise can be breathtaking and inspirational. Sharing the sunrise with friends makes it even better. There is something hopeful about watching a new day begin. Sunrise is a reminder that each day is a fresh start, and it can set a positive tone for whatever comes next.
I’m really grateful that all of you shared this morning. It was so gratifying to see all of you working so hard and throwing yourself into the workout. I’m so proud to be your coach. I hope you all have many more mornings like this in your life, and I hope that now and then you remember this particular morning with your high school teammates.
6:30 am on the track.
