Science leads us to the conclusion that it is possible for us to become more optimistic by becoming more aware of our initial reaction to a negative event. More positive self-talk and a more positive explanatory style–the way we explain what happened and why–combined with a healthy action plan can lead to much better outcomes. As Myra said, sometimes just saying our self-talk out loud can help us realize how our initial thoughts can seem silly!
I think we can all have more success by nuturing a positive explanatory style–and train ourselves to be more optimistic!
