This month’s issue of Track Coach Magazine–the technical journal of USA Track & Field–features Monta Vista’s own Kiersten Chuc and Emma Seyer!
During track season, Monta Vista’s throwing stars submitted an article to Track Coach. The article discusses how to inspire more women and girls to take up throwing events, from the point of view of two very inspired varsity throwers. The editors of Track Coach were thrilled with the article proposal, as the editors feel that the subject matter is very important. The editors also felt that having ‘inspiration’ discussed by the athletes was a unique approach.
In July 2013, the summer issue of Track Coach was mailed out…and guess what? Emma and Kiersten’s article is the featured article, leading off the magazine, and Emma’s photo is on the magazine cover!
In the first week of publication, Kiersten and Emma got their first piece of fan mail. Dave Shrock, who is a vice president in the Pacific Association of USA Track & Field and the chair of the coaches’ committee, wrote to thank the magazine for printing such an ‘informative and inspirational article’ and noted that the authors covered truly important concepts in an enjoyable way.
The editors told us that this is the first time in the 50 year history of the journal that high school athletes have authored an article published in Track Coach. Not only did Emma and Kiersten make a real contribution to our sport, and give back to our athletic community–Kiersten and Emma made history!
A copy of the article is attached as a PDF that you can download if you would like. Thank you to Track Coach and to Track & Field News for allowing us to reprint this article.
