The Central Coast Section championship performances rival the high school state championships for places like Pennsylvania and Michigan…and advancing to the California State Meet is a true achievement!  Monta Vista’s three representatives to CCS all repped our team well.

On May 14 in Gilroy at trials, sophomore thrower Alice Ross got in the discus circle after her success at SCVALs the week before.  Alice notched a 91′ throw for 18th place.  While Alice did not qualify for finals, she is still a sophomore–only one sophomore and one freshman advanced.  Alice’s future, along with the other young throwers on the MVTF squad, is bright!

Senior Sotirios Kougiouris ran a 16.01 for 16th place in the 100m hurdles, but he saved his best for the 300m hurdles where his 40.06 personal record won his heat and was the second fastest time of the day!  Soti’s mark is the 7th fastest all time for Monta Vista.  On May 21st at finals, Soti went for it all, coming around the last turn with 100m left in 4th place and pushing for the last ticket to the State meet; while two runners caught him and Soti finished in 6th place and earned a coveted CCS medal, Soti can be proud for leaving everything on the track!

Freshman Clara Fan advanced to the high jump finals with a trials clearance of 5’0″, and followed that up with a spectacular 5’5″ personal record at Finals!  Clara’s jump is the second best jump in Monta Vista, and a 4th place finish at CCS.  Clara’s mark also met the at-large mark for State, so in addition to her medal and podium finish, Clara is headed to State on Friday, May 27 at Buchanan high school!

Well done, everyone, and see you at State!

Clara happy 2022 CCS final
