400 ShootOut 2025: Pre-Event Information

It is only hours to the first gun of the MVTF season–yes, it’s time for the Monta Vista 400 ShootOut!  Here is the scoop…please read this and if you have any questions, see Coach Smith or Coach Flatow on Tuesday.

Pre-Event Schedule and Bibs

As soon as school ends, head out to the track. We will have someone ready to hand out bibs. Get your bib, pin it on to your shirt, and you are ready to go! We will go through our normal stretch and drill routine as a team, then we will give everyone 15 minutes to jog, stride and warm up. Then we will be ready to line up for the first heat!

Bib numbers are assigned in advance; we assigned bibs to everyone at practice on Monday who checked off their name on the roster. The list of bibs is at the bottom of this post. Please check for your name and know your bib number! If you were not at practice on Monday, please see Coach Smith or Coach Flatow tomorrow.

The Heats

We open with heats for the throwers, then the regular boys’ heats, the regular girls’ heats, and finally the three top heats. 

Heats 1 and 2: Throwers

Heats 3, 4, 5, 6, (7–if needed): Boys’ Open Heats (37 boys + top heats). Sort yourself into heats with friends and teammates! Make sure you get in a heat–everyone is expected to run a 400 either today or at a later date with Coach Sciplin.

Heats 8, 9, (10–if needed): Girls’s Open Heats (22 girls + top heat).

Heat 11: Boys’ Second Top Heat

Heat 12: Girls’ Top Heat

The Top Heats

Coach Smith and Coach Flatow have assigned runners to the top heat for the girls and the two top heats for the boys. Here are these assignments:

Boys’ Top Heat (this will be the last heat of the day):

Boys Second Heat (before girls’ top heat):

You probably note that we left some open lanes…any runners that are assigned to ‘open’ races and want to step up to a challenge and take one of the open lanes in a top heat, please see Coach Smith on Tuesday!

Awards

There will be awards for the top three boys and for the top three girls in the top heats, and for the top three in the combined open and thrower divisions. The top boy and girl will each get their name on the perpetual champion trophy!

Bibs

Here are the bib assignments! You may not have been assigned a bib if you were not at practice on Monday, if you are not cleared yet, or if you did not check your name off the roster as Coach Sciplin directed on Monday. If you don’t see your name here, please see Coach Smith or Coach Flatow on Tuesday.
