Finals week: Everyone has a different schedule and requirement during finals week…so please discuss with your coach whether there will be a practice during finals week, or even if you want a practice during this week. Personally, I always liked a little bit of exercise to clear my head before or after an exam or big study session, not a formal practice but a shake out run or a quick set of intervals or whatever. But, but…I had plenty of classmates who just went to their desk and embraced the grind. You be you! do what makes you feel the most confident before your exams!–your coaches want you to be successful. Coach Samantha will not be holding practices during finals week. For other coaches, please check with them yourselves…and also let them know if you do or don’t want to have a practice, so they are not standing around wondering if you are going to show or not. Communicate!

High school track and field seasons go by quickly! From the first MVTF practice to our first competition is less than a month, and there is a break week in there too. Athletes that want to do well, and avoid injuries, will arrive at the first day of practice in reasonable fitness. Fortunately for you…your coaches are prepared to help you with your winter training!
Here are group workouts that are scheduled. All these workouts are optional, but we hope you take advantage of these opportunities to help you prepare for a fun and successful 2022 track season! Don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the coaches for more information.

Sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers with Coach Curtis. Coach Curtis Liang curtisliang@gmail.com will be coaching sprints and relays, and these workouts will be good preparation for hurdlers and jumpers also. Monday @ 4:10: Track workout. Tuesday @ 4:10pm: Weightroom. Thursday @ 4:10pm: Weightroom. Friday @ 3:25: Hill workout.
Jumpers with Coach Samantha. Coach Samantha Louie slouie29@gmail.com will be coaching long, triple and high jump in 2022. Meet Coach Samantha for workouts at the jump pits. Monday: 4:10pm. Wednesday: 3:25pm. Saturday: 1:00pm.
Coach Irina. Coach Irina plans to be at the track to work with athletes that have had injuries, weak points, or areas they want to strengthen on Tuesdays 4:10-5:10pm and Fridays 325-425 pm, on these dates: December 2, 6, 9, 13, 20, 23, 27, 30, January 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, 27, 31. Coach Irina’s dates can be adjusted based on athlete demand or lack of demand–so be there if you want help! You can also communicate with Karena Lai (Karena is coordinating sessions with Coach Irina).
Hurdlers with Coach Tyler. Coach Tyler Jackson jacktyl@outlook.com will be coaching the hurdlers in 2022. Coach Tyler will be at the track for hurdles practice: Monday December 5th, Monday December 12th, and Monday December 19th, each of these days at 4:30 pm. Coach can also be at the track on Friday, December 30–but hurdlers, you should let him know if you can make it, don’t leave Coach hanging if you are gone for the holidays! Hurdlers, you can also join the sprinters for their workouts on other days…and make an effort to come to Coach Tyler’s workouts so you can get to know him before the season starts. Pass the word along to all the hurdlers (and hurdle-curious!).
Distance Runners. Athlete lead workouts meet at the track on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:10 and Wednesdays and Fridays at 3:25. You can find out about Saturday meet-ups at any of the after school workouts, or reach out to Sydney, Nikhita, Anika, Megan, Jasmine, Amogh, Ari, Ruhaan, Darren or one of the other cross country runners…Coach Flatow coachflatow@gmail.com can connect you if you are new to the distance team.
