Hi team,
I’m sorry I have not updated mvrunning more frequently as Rustbuster approaches, this has been a hectic week!
Attached are two useful downloads.
First is an order of events. This will tell you when your event falls in the day.
Second is a Rustbuster program. This is even more interesting! The program has all the entries that all the teams have made. You can see your heat, your lane and who you will be racing directly. There is also an estimated time for your event–please note that this is only an estimate! We will be running on a rolling schedule so we may go faster (or slower). Don’t show up to race at 11:43 only to find that we ran fast and your race went off at 11:30–you will miss out!
By the way, weather will be tricky. Stick a few extra trash bags in your gear, you can put your gear back in one trash bag to keep your bag dry, you can put your wet gear in another trash bag after your race so it does not soak your bag, a third and fourth back might make you a hero to a teammate that forgot to bring any trash bags, and a fifth trash bag makes a great rain poncho if things are ugly. Bring dry, warm clothes for after your race.
A few other notes:
- When you arrive at the track, get your bib and put it on (Coach Johnson will have the bibs). If you have your own pins bring them just in case. If you are only in field events you don’t need a bib.
- For all events with lanes (hurdles, 100, etc) you will report to Coach John about a half hour before the race starts–make sure you report in.
- Throwers, we will be certifying your implements before you throw–Santa Clara will weigh and check your shot and discus to ensure they are legal.
And remember to look for ways to make Rustbuster great!
- Always have a positive attitude–what is going great? Let’s talk about that!
- Make the best effort you can. Making your best effort includes having a good dinner the night before, getting a good night’s sleep, having all your gear ready to go, having dry clothes for afterwards–as well as having a good warm up and trying your best during your event!
- Remember good sportsmanship–say good luck and shake the hand of people next to you. Say something nice to the person who finishes ahead of you (“you looked really good, I thought I could get you!”) and behind you (“you really pushed me, thanks! I hope you had a good race, let’s get some water”).
- Thank at least one volunteer or judge–maybe more. Saying thank you is more meaningful when you say something more than thanks (“thank you for being out in the rain for us…I appreciate your extra effort”).
- Find ways to help with the meet. Help move hurdles if you are not competing!
- And always…if you have time, get near the track and cheer for your teammates (and our guests, too). This is one of the great things about our sport–you always have an opportunity to be a fan as well as an athlete! Maybe go watch something you have not seen before, like the throws, for a while–it might be interesting and the competitors would like to see you. Stick around and help make the Rustbuster great!
I think that is in–in any case it’s late and all I can think of right now!
Can’t wait to get our season started at the Rustbuster! Let’s rock this place!
