Here is what you need to know for the Quicksilver Invitational on Saturday, March 6.
Number 1 thing to remember (and 2, and 3): This is going to be a BIG meet. We don’t go to many meets like this! So be there early, pay attention to how the meet is progressing, bring healthy snacks for before and after your race, dry clothes for afterwards, maybe some homework for downtime. And most importantly, bring a good and positive attitude! This is going to be a great day to race, you are super fit, and Quicksilver is going to be an opportunity to express your training on the track in a fast race.
We have never been to Quicksilver as a big group before, so we are going to be figuring things out as we go. Attached are a few documents to help us all. First is a preliminary performance list; this document has all the Quicksilver entries sorted by event.
Next are scans of the meet information sheets from the meet director. On these sheets I have hand-written all of the accepted Monta Vista entries so you can see who is running what event.
Please note the limitations of the time schedule provided by the meet director. All the field events have specific scheduled start times–so field eventers, you know when to be at your event and when to be warmed up, etc. (bear in mind there may be multiple flights so take that into account, too–you will find out when you report).
For the running events, I made a VERY ROUGH guess as to how the meet might progress and written some times in left hand margin of the schedule (first part and second part). This gives you an idea of when your event might start, but please remember that this is MY guess not what is provided by the meet director. The meet could run faster than my guess if the meet is efficient and there are some scratches, and the meet could run slower than my guess if there are any difficulties. Also note that the check in times are given relative to the event–for example check in for the girls’ FS 800m must be complete by the start of the girls FS 400m. So if you are running in the 800, you must be at the meet well before the FS 400 begins and that time is only an estimate. So my advice is–get there early, settle in and get yourself comfortable, and enjoy the track action and being with your teammates until your race time comes!
The Quicksilver Invitational is held at Leland High School, 6677 Camden Avenue in San Jose–about 16 miles and a half hour drive from Monta Vista High School. Let’s enjoy the experience of a new track meet, and the chance to run against some people we don’t always compete with. See you at Leland on Saturday!
