UPDATE
There were two errors by your coach in the meet sheet for De La Salle.
First, Justin was not listed. Justin is running in the JV Boys 2 race at 10:35 am. Sorry Diego–oops, I mean Justin!
Next, the JV Boys 2 race at 10:35 am is actually a three (3!!!) mile race. All the boys will be running a three-mile race at DLS, either varsity or one of the two JV races…this will be good prep for the rest of the season.
Sorry for my errors and any confusion!
Here is the updated meet sheet.
Hello, MVXC!
I love a solid practice week, like this one…where we can get three quality runs in the books. Yet it’s also nice to look ahead, so take a look at the meet sheet for De La Salle on September 21!
De La Salle is a fun course, and the competition is high-level. The first time we went to DLS it was epic. During the Varsity girls’ race, the skies opened up and it started raining*. It was a biblical amount of rain. As the lead bike went down the first hill, the rider went down hard in the mud and slid out; a few girls fell in the mud trying to avoid him, and Bridget Gottlieb picked her way around the fallen girls, hopped over the bike, and moved up four or five spots. Classic! For the guys, they gave up on the hill and had them run around the field a few times. The rain stopped by noon and it was 90 the rest of the weekend. So weird. But, I digress!
There is a lot of great information on the course. The De La Salle coach in 2023 recorded this fabulous video where we walks through the course with you; one change since there, all our JV runner can now run in the 3-mile course, so when he says ‘varsity’ think ‘3-mile’ because almost all of us are running that course. And if you think that is cool, then watch this video as he gets on a bike with a GoPro helmet camera and follows some runners and they jog the entire course. I can’t recall anyone going to this much work to explain a course–it gets me fired up! There is also a video with map animation showing the elevation changes.
We think we will have a pasta night on the Friday before De La Salle…stay tuned!

*Rain, for younger people, is water falling from the sky. Like a big outdoor shower.
