All,

Here are the cohort rosters starting October 19.  Please remember that this is all subject to change, based upon directions from the school, FUHSD and county health authorities; but for now, here is what we will roll with.

A few important notes:

  • We have included everyone who has a parent consent form on file with FUHSD.  If anyone changed their mind and decided not to join a cohort, don’t worry about taking up space from someone else.  If you do not come and run with us in the next few days we will simply pull you off the cohort, no need to contact us.
  • If you think you did have your parents fill out a consent form, and you are not on this list, please contact Mr. Bonacorsi and let him know.  Cross country coaches do NOT have any access to this list, this must be updated by Mr. Bonacorsi.  Please do NOT come to practice if you are not in the list below, get in touch with Mr. Bonacorsi to sort that out directly.

Regarding daily procedures…

  • Please remember that you need to complete the symptom tracking form EVERY DAY.  We got a little casual about this the last week but we need to be diligent about this as we start the new cohorts.  Please don’t make your coaches remind you every day…that is irritating to both of us 🙂
  • Arrive at practice wearing your mask.  If you are not running, wear your mask.  Carry your mask with you at all times while running also.  If you do not have your mask with you, you will be sent home.
  • Always being your water bottle with you to practice.  We do not share water.
  • When you arrive at practice each day before 4pm, find a cone in the area of your cohort and drop your gear there and stay there…this is your home base for the day.

The cohorts are going to be easily divided this time–boys in one cohort, and girls in the other cohort.  We are doing this for a few reasons:  We have more athletes than we can fit into one cohort, even with the larger cohort size; coaches wanted to avoid trying to divide athletes into dedicated/non-dedicated, fast/slow, healthy/injured cohorts; and we hope that the next month can be a time for the boys and girls teams can start to bond in preparation for what we hope to be a run to the State Meet for both teams.  The current plan is that based upon our work in October and November, it will become clear who are the athletes that are working to lead the effort to make MVXC shine at the CCS meet, and when we start the season we will have a cohort of strong varsity/near varsity athletes of both genders to work together!

Also one other note…these are big cohorts and sometimes these cohorts may be split up when we run in some more crowded areas.  Please remember at all times, we are part of a community and part of our society.  Not everyone during a pandemic is going to be thrilled to see 20 kids coming at them down a narrow trail.  Please be conscious of your surroundings:  Spread out, stop and put on your mask and step off a trail if it seems crowded, say hello to people, be considerate.  This kind of behavior is simply nice!  If being nice does not motivate you enough…remember you don’t want to be the one that shuts down cross country training because an elderly walker is upset and complains, right?  Whatever motivates you to be a considerate, thoughtful member of society…embrace that thought!

Thanks for your support…and we will see you tomorrow at practice!
