Athletes and parents,

Thank you all for attending the video meetings on Monday, February 15!  It was nice ‘seeing’ you (not as nice as in person with actual handshakes and hugs, but still, nice).

I think we covered most of the important items regarding the upcoming season.  There will still be new items that come up and there will be changes–if there is one thing we have learned in the last year, we have learned that during a pandemic, plans are fluid.  We are moving as fast as we can to make a season happen!

Here are a few links that will be useful this week…

From the Los Altos High School coach, here is a very comprehensive document on how the meet will be run.  My presentation on the 15th was based on an earlier draft of this document so if you listened to either the athlete or parent video meeting, then you will know most of this information.  This doc also has links to course maps and campus maps to orient parents and athletes for drop off, parking, and other important information.

We will be using chip timing for these races so there is no contact at the finish line.  Each runner wears an RFID chip on the shoe; a unique signal identifying the runner will be picked up when the runner crosses the finish line.  MVXC will receive their chips and bibs this week; you must wear the chip and bib to each race and KEEP CHIP AND BIB SAFE and wear them to the following races.  Here are instructions on how to attach the chip to your shoe.  I suggest you do this before race day, and before arriving at Los Altos High School, so you can test to make sure that the chip will not hit your foot in a distracting way.  We will not have a lot of time to fiddle with our chips and bibs on race day.  Athletes–make sure you sprint directly over the mat at the finish line and keep going to ensure that your chip is read, and NEVER go near the finish line except when you are finishing!

On race day, parents and friends can see live results from the races on a computer or smartphone.  These live results will not be official until a day or two later, and initial team scores will only be available for the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams; but all the individual data will be there.  (There may be some adjustments for chip reading errors, but most results will be available on the day of the race.)

We will be getting people uniforms this week.

You can always check Mr. Lawson’s website for results, standings and random fun cross country information.
