MVXC is ready to start competition!
Our first race will be at the Lagoon Valley Classic held in Vacaville, California. The Lagoon Valley Classic is a new race and a new course for Monta Vista (our traditional openers at the Toro Park course are not being held this year). It will be exciting to travel to a new course–guaranteed PRs!
The Lagoon Valley Classic is run on two courses. The varsity races are three miles long, and the JV and FS races are on a two mile course. Both races have two challenging hills. We have attached course maps to the meet sheet, but on line there are some great resources to get a preview of the course. Jesuit High School (kind of a Sacramento equivalent of Bellarmine) has videos of running map course tours for both courses. Jesuit also posted a video of last year’s varsity boys’ race. This video was one of the reasons we chose this race for our opener–to me, this course looks a lot like Crystal Springs with some solid hills and some wide dirt trails. Since we have our league championships and the CCS championships both at Crystal, let’s start racing on courses that help us prepare!
Parents driving to the race can get directions from Google Maps to Lagoon Valley Park.
This should be a really nice opener! There will be a good selection of top teams from the North Coast and San Joaquin sections such as Davis and Bella Vista, and it looks like some CCS teams like Willow Glen, St. Francis and Westmont will be there too.
There will be a pasta night hosted by the Saldi family the night before–there will be more news about that event shortly.
Let’s get our season started!
