The Monta Vista track & field family has grown this season! So I thought it would nice to highlight a few helpful links for our newest athletes and their families…
What’s a track meet all about? Here is an introduction to enjoying a track meet! (By the way, we will be looking for volunteers to help run our home track meets, which is another way to learn a bit about track while getting involved!)
How do I get ready? Here is an XC checklist, and it works fine for track. Preparation for anything (a race, a test, a trip, first day on a job) helps you feel confident and in control!
Hydration: I was out running in Fremont Older today and it felt like May, so don’t tell me there is no climate change! 🙂 Here is your guide to hydration, why and how. This is a key for you! (It makes me happy to see you all safe and hydrated. When Bridget and Maddie grabbed their water bottles, THEN their medals, after smoking the 3200 at Willow Glen, I was thinking that is just part of what makes them such great runners!)
Hydration and Medals: There is a STRONG correlation!
Nutrition: No one should be on a diet while training for track & field, but everyone should be eating healthy foods! Here is an intro to nutrition for athletes, a great guide to foods for recovery after a workout from USATF, and some information on a hot button of mine: Iron.
I hope that this helps you get started with track & field!
