Yes, it’s true, MVXC21 is about to get rolling!

Our first practice as a team, with a coach and everything, will be on Monday, August 9 at 7am.  The team will meet on the Monta Vista track down near the sheds (turn one for the trackheads).  You must be have your athletic clearance complete (this includes having your physical filed, your parent’s sign off on Home Campus, your at-home on-line impact/concussion baseline test and the school’s approval of all of this) in order to practice with the team so please take care of that!  (As I write this, only Sophia and Abigail have completed this process so please, please let’s get on top of our clearances!)

Joining the cross country is one of the best things you can do during your high school career. Cross country is all about effort…while talent plays a role, what our team truly values and respects is the effort, determination and grit shown by our teammates as they try to get the most out of their talent.  Talent is a gift, but effort is a decision that we can all make.  Just like math or languages or writing or public speaking, running does come easier to some people than to other people; but everyone, no matter what the gifts they have, can try their best and improve.  Quite often it’s not the most talented runner that finishes in front, often the athletes that work consistently and diligently will pass the athletes that made it look easy…just like the kid that decides he really wants to speak French fluently, or the student chooses to get the very best math student she can be, ends up getting the best grades or goes the furthest in their field.  Cross country does not only value where you finish, we also value how far you travel.

If for some reason you are finding this post for the first time, you can still come to the athlete-lead summer-running practices the week of August 2.  You can meet your fellow athletes without coach around to tell you what to do and you can get a feel for our runs before we gather for the first time on August 9!  Suggested runs are attached.

See you all soon!
