The Firebird Invitational is Saturday, March 26 at the Fremont High School track…and MVTF are going big! Monta Vista has 57 entries for this big invitational.
With the size of our contingent, and the way the information is provided, we are not going to be able to sort through the entries and produce a meet sheet–right now, coach is getting ready to head to the Monta Vista track and set up for Wilcox’s arrival for our dual meet today. So here are some links and advice…
- Coach Curtis is planning to be at the meet all day. Other coaches are going to try to be there as much as possible (check with your event coach to find out his or her schedule). Coach Flatow will be at the Azusa meet on Saturday.
- It’s going to be warm so don’t forget to hydrate! Start the day with a glass of water. Bring water with you. Get a good night’s sleep, and have a nice and healthy breakfast (what worked for you at RustBuster or St. Francis?).
- To find out which events you are in, go to the meet program. This document is searchable, you can use the find function on your browser and find your name and your events, heats and lanes. Check in procedures for track events and for field events will be very similar to what we did at RustBuster–Hank Lawson is the timer at both events.
- Once you find your name in the program, you can see the time that the event is scheduled. For example, if you are in the 400m, frosh-soph girls event, at the top you will see Event 015 FSG-400 (11:57)…so you know you are scheduled to go at 11:57am. Personally, I’d want to plan to be at the track no less than 90 minutes before that, or more, so that I have plenty of time to park, find my way to the track, find my teammates, get settled, see where the schedule is falling. Remember my suggestion on how to check if the meet is running ahead or behind…if I were in this event, and I wanted to start warming up 45 minutes before my event, I’d look back in the program to see what event would be going on at 11:12am…aha, that would be the Varsity Boys’ 1600m. So I’d want to be starting my warm up sometime during the boys’ 1600m heats. When I see that the 4x100m relays get rolling I know that the meet is 20-30 minutes from the start of my race and I’d start heading to the start line with my spikes and singlet. At all times I’m still listening to announcements so I know when to report and check in.
- For Field Events, your scheduled time is not in the program…you need to go to the Firebird meet information and at the bottom of this page are all the scheduled times for field events.
- If your event is later in the day, you might arrange with an athlete at the meet earlier to text back and forth regarding schedule (if I were that 400m runner I might want to have a plan with a 1600m runner to let me know if the meet is on schedule).
- A note for the girls in the sprint medley relay…we think that we have a good team! The SMR is a four-leg relay 100-100-200-400. We have entered Valerie in the 400 and Katie in the 200. If Clara scratches from the open 100, she can run one of the 100 legs, and either Samhita or Varsha can run the other 100 leg. Please see Coach Curtis to get this organized. We could really scare some people with this team!
