Learning how to cook truffle risotto together was a huge hit for MVXC!  On October 2, 39 MVXC athletes and MVXC coaches and supporters got together for an on-line cooking class with Truffle Shuffle, had a lot of fun and learned some new skills.  By popular acclaim, we decided to make cooking together a regular thing for MVXC!
A survey of the team and participants gave us a consensus for our next dish:  Ramen!  So we travel across the globe, from Italy to Japan, for our next class.  We will also be trying a new instructor, from the Baltimore Chef Shop.
The Ramen class will be held on Friday, November 6 at 5:30pm and will last two to two-and-a-half hours.  Here is some more information…
  • Everyone will have to shop for their own ingredients this time–no fancy delivery to your door!  An ingredient and equipment list can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.  You will need to shop for these ingredients yourself–or talk your parents into picking up everything on the list.  There is vegetarian option.
  • We will not be charging you for the class.  Sign up on this shared form if you want to be part of the class.
  • On the Thursday before the class, we will verify that you have the ingredients and send you a Zoom link for the class.
We hope you join us for this class!  Cooking together is a fun team activity.  Plus…cooking is important, food is important.  I know, our forests are on fire, the sea is rising, the pandemic is raging, and political tension abounds in advance of the election.  We are trying to pay attention at school and learn when everything is on Zoom and we are stuck in our rooms; we are trying to figure out which college to go to when we can’t walk around a bustling campus and picture ourselves laying on the grass in the quad arguing philosophy with kids in the dorm.  And here is your coach, trying to encourage you to come to a zoom class where you will learn to cook Ramen.  Yes, I am.  I think that preparing good food for people that you care about–and for yourself–can make things a little better for all of us that are struggling a bit, and a little bit of delicious food can be a vaccine against doomscrolling at midnight.   And this is a skill that will last; four years from now, you can be in college and bust out your Ramen-making skills for your college friends before the 2024 election, give them some wonderful soup and when they asked where you learned how to do that, you can tell them about your crazy cross country team during the 2020 pandemic.
So come join your teammates, let’s cook some wonderful Ramen, and then get up on Saturday morning and bust out some FKTs!  Are you with me???
