Please pass this along to everyone…
The Central Coast Section has decided, due to uncertain air quality, to delay the CCS Championship meet once again to Saturday, November 17. The time schedule will stay as originally planned.
Monday (Veteran’s Day Holiday) the MVXC varsity teams will meet at the Y for practice:
- the boys at 7am
- and the girls at 8am
(staggered times should have a little less impact on the crowding on the treadmills). Please check in with coach when you arrive. Also…please, everyone, let’s everyone thank at least one YMCA employee AND one YMCA member while you are at the Y. Tell them thank you for sharing their facility and tell them a little about you and our team (“I can’t tell you how much we appreciate this. This is my cross country team from Monta Vista High School. We have been working all season and now with this weather everything is up in the air…but I think because we have access to these treadmills indoors we are going to be so much better off than most teams. Thank you very much for being so supportive of my team and I!” A little comment like this can make all the difference to the people at the club…I know that you have already impressed these people, Coach Johnson and I have been getting great feedback from members already.
Team, these changes are irritating but let’s keep our focus on a few things:
- There are people in Paradise and Chico that are really suffering. No matter how irritating the smoke is to us, there are people for whom this is a tragedy. We will bounce back faster than many others.
- Every team in our races is impacted the exact same way as us.
- However…not every team will choose to react to the changes and obstacles in the same way. We are faced with a grit test. If we keep our routine better than other schools, we will be more physically ready to run. And if we stay mentally focused and positive–if we stay gritty–then we are more ready to get on the line. I believe you are the grittiest team in CCS…so let’s use these changes as a team-wide grit test. If you have a negative thought, try to get it out of your head by doing or saying something positive. If someone says something negative, help them see the positive–try not to say ‘don’t think that’, it’s more constructive to help remind your teammates of how tough we are, everything we are doing to mitigate the situation, and all the positive things we can still take from the situation.
We can do this team! I believe in you. Let’s pass this grit test with an A.
See you tomorrow…
