We have a meet sheet for the first Baylands meet!

A reminder: You are responsible for your own transportation to all weekday meets. In the past, when we’ve tried to organize a bus, it created problems since athletes need to leave school at different times to minimize missed class. This makes scheduling a bus difficult. So, while you have flexibility, you also have responsibility. Coordinate with your parents and friends to arrange rides to and from Baylands Regional Park in time to warm up for your race.

Also, don’t forget to inform your teachers about the class time you’ll be missing and when you need to leave.

I’d like to highlight the ‘Gratitude’ section of the meet sheet. This meet is co-hosted by Palo Alto and Los Altos, and organizing an event like this takes significant effort! Take a moment to express your appreciation to one or more of the following people:

  • Michael Davidson (Palo Alto Head Coach)
  • Stephanie MacKenzie (Los Altos Coach)
  • Hank Lawson (the timer, wearing a silly hat at the finish line with his computer)
  • Julie L’Heureux (Santa Clara Coach, who will be starting the race with the gun)

When you see them, say something like, “Hey Coach! Thanks for organizing this meet, it’s fantastic! I especially thought that…” Share your genuine thoughts and feelings, and try to include a detail or two. If that seems like too much for your first time, at least say “thank you for the good meet!” and then run away 🙂

Remember, expressing gratitude not only makes the organizers feel appreciated, but it also helps you reflect on how much you have to be thankful for. A sincere thank-you makes a difference and is rewarding for both you and those who made the event happen.

People genuinely notice and appreciate gratitude and sincere thanks.
