Track and Field Athletes, Welcome!
We can’t wait for track to start! This is such a great sport…and such a great team!
We had 70 athletes sign in for the pre-season meeting on November 29, so clearly the word is out! Here are a few follow up items from the meeting…
- The first day of practice is Monday, January 28, 2019 at the track. You need to be athletically cleared by that day or you may not practice with the team! We expect you to be dressed and fit to work out on the first day–the season gets started fast, we have the 400 Shootout on February 14 and the RustBuster on March 2! You cannot set down your Playstation on January 27, show up at practice the next day and expect us to help you get in shape…you need to have some level of fitness on day one! We don’t expect (or want) you to be flat out racing-fit but we do want you training-fit. So do some running and core! Otherwise…ouch.
- Athletic clearance information is available that the school athletics website. Schedule your physical NOW. The paperwork your doctor needs to sign is at the site above. If your regular doctor is not available in time for the first practice, you can go to a walk-in or urgent care clinic, they can give your your exam and sign off on your form on the same day. This is not optional in order to join the team.
- Parents, please join the Monta Vista Athletic Boosters now! Just like last year, for every family that joins the MVAB, that athlete will receive a team t-shirt to train in–we will use part of the MVAB membership funds to purchase the t-shirt. MVAB is a fantastic organization that has been a strong supporter of the track and field program, purchasing our uniforms, canopies, bicycles, jump pits, hurdles and more–as well as our t-shirts. First come, first served for t-shirt sizes so please join today (kids, remind your parents!!!)
