I was in Flagstaff this week, visiting the Hoka Northern Arizona Elite running team. For the last couple of years, this has been a great way to transition from track to cross-country seasons for me. It’s a lot of fun to hang out with a bunch of very, very fast and motivated runners who love the sport and love what we are all doing!
I got the opportunity to drop in and watch a couple of workouts (it’s really impressive to see a group of women drop sub-2:20 800s at the end of a session that already had more than three miles of quality work and ten hill repeats!), see the Northern Arizona University team as they were leaving for the NCAA D1 championships, and get some runs in myself. I also went and helped Coach Ben and his team volunteer with a sports day they host with Fit Kids of Arizona (this is a really nice thing that NAZ Elite does every year for the local community). And last night, I got together to for a BBQ while watching the NCAA D1 preliminary track meet (as well as the men’s 10km finals); it is so fun watching a track meet with other avid track fans!
I’m heading back today feeling happy and motivated and ready to start training for our 2018 Cross Country season! I have some ideas for tweaks to our own training–and I can’t wait for cross to start!
