Around lunchtime Monday, I walked into the school office to take care of some paperwork and Diana Goularte stopped me.

Diana:  “Facilities got a phone call to confirm a delivery to Coach Flatow this Thursday.”

Me:  “Oh, great!”

Diana:  “Yes, well…they wanted to know where they could park their truck.  They told us they are leaving a 9000 pound trailer with all the gear!”

Holy smokes…our equipment was finally coming!

On Thursday, I showed up for practice, and sure enough in the back of the fields, there was a big semi-trailer left for us, and when I opened up the door it was filled with boxes and shrink wrapped pallets!  For the next two days, the team and coaches pitched in to unload the trailer.  We still have a lot of organizing to do, but wow, our field really looks like a track now!

Purple jump pits…racks and racks of hurdles with their purple down tubes, on their own flight carts…the most beautiful blocks you have ever seen (Coach John McKeeman and I, total track nerds, could not stop examining the workmanship and design)…yellow and white sector flags streaming across our field…amazing!

It’s track and field now!

Come by and take a look, or make plans to come to our first home meet in a decade against Cupertino on March 14!

Also, we can’t end a post like this without acknowledging some of the people who made this day possible:

–The Monta Vista Athletic Boosters, who selflessly work hard every year to help us fund our programs and who generously donated towards this purchase.

–Principal April Scott, athletic directors Jeff Mueller and Jeff Thomas, and Michael Hicks and Nico Flores who all provided support and guidance throughout the process.

–Our facilities department lead by Chris Kenney who has been working hard to get the track ready for competition.

–Matt Farmer at VS Athletics and Fred Dixon at Gill Athletics who supplied all this great equipment.

We can’t thank them all enough…if you have time, please say something!

–Coach Kirk Flatow
