MVXC training ‘for real’ seems to start with the first trip up Fire Trail, and on August 23 the team made it’s first run up to the top as a group! More than 70 MVXC athletes made that run–for many runners, this was their first time ever to the top of Fire Trail, but it won’t be their last–we were figuring out that runners who stick with the team for all four years will make more than 100 trips up the fire trail.  That run, and the runs we have when we get to the top and have all of Fremont Older to train on, is Monta Vista XC’s secret weapon and why our runners do so well on hilly courses.  After training in Fremont Older, our athletes can handle hills! I’ve been meaning to haul my big camera up the hill to photograph the team while training up there, and since I’m injured a bit and not running I decided today was the day to bring the camera…check out the photos of the trip up Fire Trail, our traditional greeting for the runners on their first time up the hill, and hill repeats on ‘Matt’s Hill’ at the top:

A cheer at the top:  ‘When I say MONTA, you say VISTA…’

First repeats of the year on ‘Matt’s Hill.’

And up we go…
