Everyone on the table above may join practice on Monday morning, which is meeting at 7am on the Monta Vista high school track.
Students who are not on the list above may have some questions…here are some frequently asked questions and some answers:
I came to the clearance day and Mr. Bonacorsi or Javier signed me off; I think I should be on the list. What should I do?
—>If you have the pink and yellow sheets signed by Mr. Bonacorsi or Javier, you can bring those sheets to practice on Monday. You can join the practice and we will sort out the on-line problem later. If you do not have the sheets, you need to go find the person who signed the forms and figure out why you are not on the cleared list. You may not join practice until you can give coach the signed sheets or you show up on Home Campus as ‘cleared’.
I am on the list above; do I need to bring the signed clearance sheets to practice?
—>Nope! Those sheets are back up in case there is a problem with the on-line database. If you are on the roster above, that means you are cleared.
I don’t know what all this athletic clearance stuff means, I just want to be on the cross country team; what do I do?
—>Go to the Matador Athletics site and follow all the instructions.
I did not come to the regular clearance days; what do I do now?
—>From Monday August 12 through Friday August 16, you may go to the athletic training room (located next to the weight room, opposite the baseball field) between 4pm and 6:30pm to be cleared. Athletes that need trainer attention will have priority; athletes needing to be cleared will have to wait until Javier has time to clear you. Be prepared to wait as much as an hour to be taken care of (this is why there were dedicated athletic clearance days August 6-9).
I don’t have my physical yet, and my doctor cannot see me until September (or whenever). What should I do?
—>After August 23, you may not join the team (we may make some allowance for transfer students or freshmen if they have been training); and every day you miss until you join is an absence that counts against you earning PE credit. If you have not had your physical yet, you have a couple of options. Many CVS Pharmacy locations have walk-in physical centers set up this month with doctors and nurse practitioners ready to help you. You can walk in, be examined, pay a fee and walk out with signed documents. Also, many urgent care/walk in clinics will perform a physical for you on a walk in basis. You can take care of your physical over the weekend at a walk in clinic without waiting for your doctor. Or, on Monday morning you could go have a walk-in physical, you could enter all your data on Home Campus while eating lunch, and at 4:00pm on Monday you could to the trainer’s office and be cleared–and you would be ready to join the team on Tuesday. It’s totally possible for you to do this! (Mr. Bonacorsi told me that this last week, a transfer student came to the clearance day on Wednesday with nothing–she and her parents did not know the procedures. They left, got a physical that day, filled out all the paperwork, came back at 4pm and were cleared–she will not miss a day of practice. You can do this too!)
Thank you to everyone who has been cleared on time and is ready to go–see you on Monday! Everyone else–hurry up and let’s get you cleared and on the team!
